Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word happy would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness. It is far better take things as they come along with patience and equanimity.

I don’t really believe we need to suffer or be sad, in order to appreciate being happy. I think that’s just one more lie we tell ourselves so we don’t jump from high places. LOL Seriously, misery and sadness is just that and there should be a PRICE to be paid to be happy.

In the same way there is a Canadian stereotype that every day of good weather must be paid for with at least two days of bad weather. No happiness, or at least remaining calm and competent, in the face of some very bad weather indeed is a choice and a path of learned behavior. No one has a life free from storms.
